ABC Muskoka

A picture is worth a thousand words. Nola loves pictures and words. In August 2010 she had a project idea to unite those loves, utilize her image making skills, and be a lot of fun.   Twenty Seven (27) Lino relief block images carved and printed with an antique proof press combined with modern electronic digital assembly, produced the book. All within walking distance of the Studio in East York.

ABC Muskoka engages children and  adults. Young children compete to be the one who figures out just what that word is. Older youth are enthralled with the idea that a flat piece of paper can turn into this wonderful object, a book. Boys love the strong black and white graphic images and a vocabulary that does not talk down. All find bookmaking workshops bring a whole new world of creativity to the act of reading.

ABC Muskoka is a 4″ x 6″ keepsake book,  for small hands belonging to those just learning to read. It fits into an older persons bag or purse to be brought out at family time.  Individually created handmade collector books use giclée prints  fine art papers, cotton, silk and birchbark for true one of a kind items. Original image prints (up to 10) give fine art collectors the opportunity to simply have their favourite image on the wall. Workshops offer you an opportunity to create your personal handmade ABC Muskoka.

The Libraries in Port Carling, Gravenhurst and Bracebridge have ABC Muskoka in their collections. The books are currently available at selected retailers in Muskoka, Parry Sound and Toronto. Many books have gone around the world from direct purchase.

Thanks to all those who have purchased, plus, Arts in Muskoka, Muskoka Chautauqua , the Rosseau, a JW Marriott Resort & Spa, Kaleidescope Arts in Education  and ArtSmarts programming in Muskoka, Muskoka’s Libraries and Toronto Public Libraries for supporting this project.
