Horses

Horse portraits appear in all cultures. Since the age of three, horses have been Nola’s preferred subject. Commissioned works are in private residential collections across North America.
Most works in this gallery are created in egg tempera. This ancient medium is pure pigment tempered (ground) in a benign mix of egg yolk and drinkable water. Painted with fine brushes, colour is applied in precise translucent glazes of cross-hatched strokes on hard panels. Each layer influences all the others. Finished works have an unbeatable inner glow. Achieving that glow and colour is time consuming. Each layer must dry before the next can be applied. On completion the work needs time to cure. Egg tempera images suit smaller residential walls and close examination.
